GeoSciences Inc. completed a geotechnical study for a
wastewater treatment facilities project proposed by the
Lacey Olympia Tumwater Thurston (LOTT) Wastewater Alliance.
The proposed facilities consist of a new Hawks Prairie
Satellite Reclamation Plant, improvements to the existing
Martin Way Pump Station, and three miles of conveyance
lines. The raw sewage conveyance line from the pump station
to the plant will traverse along East Martin Way beneath a
wetland area, and will require trenchless construction
methods for a significant part of its length. The reclaimed
water conveyance line from the plant to the outfall site
will have trenchless road crossings at East Martin Way, and
at the intersections of Britton Parkway and Marvin Road. A
preliminary geotechnical engineering assessment of the
general area of the facilities was performed and a brief
report was prepared outlining geotechnical conditions and
design considerations for the siting and design of the
facilities. Site and location-specific geotechnical
investigations for the facilities were then performed.
Separate reports were prepared for the Hawks Prairie
Satellite Reclamation Plant site and various plant
components, for the proposed improvements to the Martin Way
Pump Station, and for the conveyance lines between the pump
station and plant and from the plant to the outfall
location. Recommendations were provided for foundation
support for the various structures and treatment facility
units on both the plant and pump station sites. Earth and
potential ground water pressures and dewatering needs for
buried facilities were discussed, and recommendations and
guidelines for site grading and drainage considerations, for
open-trench and trenchless construction of the underground
conveyance lines, and for roadway and parking lot pavement
development, were also provided in the reports. Additional
scope included a stormwater infiltration study at the plant
site.
